Delhi University is likely to start two new courses – a five year integrated course in Journalism and a post-graduate diploma course in cyber security from this academic session.
Some papers will be on data journalism, investigative journalism, foreign languages and regional languages. Thirty students will be admitted this year.
The university’s standing committee on academic affairs approved proposals to start the Journalism school, another School of Transnational Affairs and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Cyber Law and Security, said Nachiketa Khalsa, member of the standing committee. (Source: HT)
The three agendas that received nod from the standing committee today and will have to get the nod from the Academic Council and the Executive Council before they are implemented.
DU Vice Chancellor Yogesh Tyagi had last year proposed for introduction of five-year integrated course in journalism.
In the previous academic council meeting, the VC had mooted the idea of the courses. Though nothing concrete was known to us, he had set up committees of experts on cyber security and journalists to work on the syllabus and course content, which are now ready.
As published on HT, “Students will be taught discipline-specific and elective courses. There will be a paper on data and investigative journalism along with papers on media and psychology, media and history, editing, writing, and documentary making,” said Savita Datta, chairperson of the committee on structure and syllabus for the five-year integrated Journalism programme.
Datta said students will have two study two compulsory languages, which will help them report from different regions.
“There will be four foreign language options – Arabic, Chinese, Spanish and French. There will be two regional languages as well – Tamil and Bengali. Students will have to learn one foreign and one regional language,” she said.
The process for applying for the undergraduate course is same as other courses. Applicants have to fill the centralized registration form and opt for the course. Admission to the Journalism course will be based on cutoffs and application forms will be released soon.
